The Enneagram is a dynamic map to understanding our human nature, a psycho-spiritual tool that facilitates self-observation, self-transformation and self-transcendence. Through it, we can come to see and know ourselves and others more truly – not just our personality – our behaviour, habits of mind, motives, and patterns of relating, but our very Essence.
Indeed, the fundamental message of the Enneagam is that we are not our personality. Each of us is a spark of the Divine Light immanent in everything. We share in one Being but are so identified with the false self that we have forgotten our True Nature, our Essence. This identification is the root of our suffering, what in Buddhism is described as Wrong View, Ignorance. Part of an authentic Western spiritual tradition, the Enneagram, shows each type its unique path to liberation.
We are always interacting with people, whether they be our spouses, children, parents, co-workers, friends or strangers. Being in relationship can sometimes feel like walking through a mine field, sometimes a field of flowers. Either way, the Enneagram can strengthen relationships and greatly enhance our understanding, appreciation, and compassion for others.
The Enneagram symbol is a circle with nine points on its circumference and lines that connect them in a particular geometric pattern. These lines reveal the paths we need to take to develop our strengths, transform the lead of our personalities into gold, and realize our True Nature.
